Ellen Huff Powers Young Artist Competition
The Ellen Huff Powers Young Artist Competition was established in honor of Ellen Huff Powers, a founder of Powers Music School and the School's Director from 1964-1984. The purpose of this Competition is to encourage some of the region's most exceptional music students in their advancement and study of chamber music.

Congratulations to all of the students who participated in this year's Ellen Huff Powers Young Artist Competition.
First Place: Austin Kwoun, violin. Austin performed the Mendelssohn Concerto in e minor
Second Place: Esther Pak, violin. Esther performed "Zigeunerweisen" by Pablo de Sarasate
Third Place: Kevin Zhao, piano. Kevin performed the Beethoven Sonata Opus 53, No.21 in C Major, 3rd Movement.
Fourth Place: Simonida Spasojevic, piano. Simonida performed the Beethoven "Tempest" Sonata, 3rd Movement.
Encouragement Award: Arthur Motoyama, violin. Arthur performed the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 in g minor, 1st Movement.
8th Annual Peter Elvins Vocal Competition
Created in the memory of long-time Powers voice faculty Peter Elvins, this Competition is open to all vocalists ages 15 - 39. The winners of each division are awarded a cash prize. Peter Elvins took tremendous pride in his students' growth and accomplishments as musicians. His legacy of passion for music and teaching lives on in this vocal competition. The competition categories are: 1) the Teen Division for ages 15-18, and 2) the Opera Division for ages 19 - 39 (no managed singers).
The application deadline for 2013 has passed. Please check back for information about the 2014 competition.
Applications must include an official application form, CD, and registration fee (payable to Powers Music School). Only the first 100 applicants in each division will be considered. CDs are not returned. Application fees received beyond the first 100 applicants in each division will be refunded.

- NOTE: The on-site competition to select the 2013 Opera Division winners was canceled due to weather. But our sincerest congratulations go out to all the Semi-finalists who were selected from among an incredibly talented group of singers. Bravo!
