Dalcroze Eurhythmics
Ages: 3 and 4 years
Dalcroze Eurhythmics is a study of music through movement, developed by Swiss music educator Emille Jaques Dalcroze at the turn of the 20th century. Dalcroze realized that true musical understanding and ability required an education off the entire body, and not just of the intellect alone. Eurhythmics is a wonderful way for young people to begin an involvement in the world of music. Eurhythmics focuses musical listening, which in turn inspires creativity and expressivity. Through movement games the children begin to gain literacy in a language of music, as well as to develop a sense of the self- confidence in space, an ability to lead and to follow and a feeling for the ensemble of a group activity.
Each Eurhythmics class:
includes singing and playing instruments.
includes movement skills.
learning of Western European repertoire as well as multicultural musical traditions.
Classes focus on four important skills:
aural skills
movement
spatial awareness
social experience
Eurhythmics is spontaneous and improvisational allowing each child to create and have a sense of accomplishment working as a group.
