Suzuki: Musical Kids
Ages 3-4 years
The Suzuki Musical Kids (SMK) Program was designed to help lay a foundation for families with young children, ages 3 and 4, who are interested in the Suzuki experience and wish to expose their child to music. Skills that are built throughout the class to help prepare children for the Suzuki program are: development of fine motor skills, introduction of simple rhythms, learning how to stand in rest position and playing position, starting the beginnings of holding the bow, musicality, socialization, muscle development, etc. The expectation of the class is that it prepares the most basic of skills required to learn a stringed instrument. Children will learn how to handle a violin or viola by using a box violin/viola. This ensures that each child will learn the careful attention needed to handle a fragile wooden instrument. Real violins will be introduced when the child has joined the full Suzuki program, has started private lessons, and his teacher feels he is ready. After a year in SMK, should you decide to continue your Suzuki journey, your child will enroll into the full Suzuki program, which offers a private lesson and group class each week.
The Suzuki Method is based on the idea that the potential of every child is unlimited when learning occurs in a caring, nurturing environment. The role of parent is vital in Suzuki education. They attend lessons with the child and serve as "home teachers" during the week. To help parents understand the full extent of Suzuki philosophy and give them tools to approach their role as home teacher, the first 4 SMK classes are for the parent only. We ask that you make other arrangements for your child. The class will provide resources to help maximize your child's Suzuki experience and to lay the foundation of a successful musical education.
Suzuki said, "If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart." SMK is the first step towards these goals. We look forward to sharing the journey with you. Should you have any questions about the program, please do not hesitate contacting me.
Maximum class enrollment is 4.
