Private Lessons

We believe that all students – and the way they learn – are unique, and so our placement process matches the most appropriate teacher to each student to deliver the best possible experience. To start the placement process or to simply get more information about lessons, fill out our inquiry form here.

Private lessons run by semester:

  • Fall Semester (September to late January): 16 weeks + 1 Workshop Week (October)
  • Spring Semester (February to late May/early June): 16 weeks + 1 Workshop Week (March)
  • Summer Semester (June to August, flexible scheduling)

Fall / Spring 2023-2024 Tuition:

  • 30-minute lessons – $896 p/ semester ($1,792 p/ year)
  • 45-minute lessons – $1,272 p/ semester ($2,544 p/ year)
  • 60-minute lessons – $1,664 p/ semester ($3,328 p/ year)

Your tuition includes:

  • A total of 32 weeks of private music lessons for the academic year
  • 2 “workshop weeks” with opportunity to register for workshops at no cost
  • Option to register for ensembles or music theory at a 10% discount
  • Multiple performance opportunities during the academic year, including festivals, studio recitals, all-school recitals, and more!
  • If needed, free piano accompaniment rehearsal time prior to a recital
  • A built-in supportive music community to encourage you on your journey

Tuition is paid by semester. The full semester private lesson tuition along with the $20 per student per semester registration fee must be paid in full or a payment plan set up at the time of registration. For more information about payment options, scroll down. Click here to access our financial aid application. (There is no more aid available for Spring 2024.)

We encourage all lesson students to continue through the full academic year. In November, Powers will “roll over” your fall registration and lesson time and generate an invoice for spring semester. Payment for spring is due in December to secure your lesson time.

At the end of the spring semester, spring lesson students will have the chance to “pre-register” for the next academic year by paying tuition for the upcoming fall semester.

During the summer, lessons are flexible and are scheduled based on student and teacher availability.

By registering for lessons at Powers Music School, you agree to the policies outlined below.

Group Classes

Most group classes at Powers run by semester – typically 15 weeks in the fall, 15 weeks in the spring, and 6-8 weeks in the summer.

Browse the Powers website to read more about all of our group class offerings, or use the “Find a Program” menu up top to search by age or department.

Not sure which class is right for you or your student? Fill out our inquiry form and we’ll help you choose the best option.

Once you’ve decided to register for a class, click on the “Register Now” button in the purple section at the bottom of the class page. This will take you to our registration system ASAP, where you can complete your registration and payment.

You will be asked to create an ASAP account. (Current students may already have an account – please use the “forgot your password” link on the login page to check if you have an account associated with your email address to avoid creating a duplicate account).

Once we receive payment, your registration is complete.

Ensembles

Ensembles run by semester – 15 weeks in the fall, and 15 weeks in the spring.

Browse the Ensemble webpage here to get an idea of what we offer. With enough interest, any type of ensemble can be created!

Most ensembles are formed through a placement process to match students of similar ages, experience levels, or interests together. To start the placement process for any ensemble, fill out our inquiry form and mark the ensemble you’re interested in joining. Our staff will reach out with more information.

2023-2024 School Policies

By registering for a program at Powers Music School, you agree to the policies outlined below.

Registration

Current Students: Students currently attending Powers Music School will be eligible for pre-registration, which begins on May 1st and ends on June 30th. During this time, returning students are given the opportunity to reclaim their usual lesson time by either paying their tuition in full or enrolling in a monthly payment plan through a pre-registration email sent to the primary account holder. Current students who elect to be on monthly payment plans must pay the registration fee, payment plan fee, and deposit amount by June 30th.

Returning students receive priority registration through June 30th, after which registration is open to the public. Students whose tuition payments are not received by June 30th may forfeit their regular lesson time and incur a late registration fee of $25.

New Students: A new student is considered to be enrolled when receipt of the registration fee, full tuition payment, and any applicable materials fees have been received and successfully processed, unless a monthly payment plan has been established. Registration without payment does not secure a student’s enrollment in private lessons and/or classes.

Assessments with a music therapist are $75 for 30 minutes. All fees for music therapy must be paid before the assessment takes place.

Private lesson times arranged at registration are considered permanent for the academic year. Students can submit time change requests in writing to the Registrar’s office at any time, but revised lesson times are not guaranteed and are subject to availability. No refunds will be given in the event that lesson time change requests cannot be processed due to lack of availability on the part of the instructor.

Payment

Full payment for the semester’s tuition and registration fee are due at the time of pre-registration, new registration, or roll-over to spring, unless a payment plan is set up.

Spring invoices will be sent to the primary account holder on November 1. Payment for spring semester is due in mid-December.

Payments can be made in-person at the Powers office or online on the ASAP registration site. To make a payment online, access your ASAP account by clicking on “My Account” at the top of this website or by using the link in the pre-registration invoice emailed to the primary account holder, logging in, and clicking on the Invoice tab in your account.

All credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, AMEX) are accepted. If you are using a credit card issued by a foreign bank, please contact the office, as an additional 4% fee may be charged. Personal checks are accepted, but must be received prior to the payment due date.

Registration fees are charged per student per semester and cannot be waived.

Payment Plans

Families who would like to enroll in a monthly payment plan can elect to do so online.

Payment plans will take place over the course of the semester in 25% installments, beginning the month you register and continuing until the balance is paid off. To create a custom payment plan, please contact the office.

For current students during the pre-registration period, all registration fees, payment plan fees, and a deposit amount will be due at the time of pre-registration. A payment plan fee of $15 will be applied to all invoices put on payment plans after June 30, 2023.

A credit card number must be kept on file for all payment plans; check payments will not be accepted for monthly payments. By setting up a payment plan you are authorizing Powers to charge your card on file for each installment. During the rollover period from fall to spring semester, we will create a new payment plan for spring and your card on file will be charged for the first installment.

Monthly payments that are not paid by their due date will incur a $10 late fee; payments that fall behind two months or more will be subject to having the Payment Plan revoked, whereby the full account balance will be due. Powers reserves the right to suspend lessons due to late or non-payment.
