CIT Programs (Counselor-in-Training)

We offer two opportunities for older students to still enjoy their favorite summer programs - MOTH (for ages 16-18), and Pow-Wow (for ages 12-15). Read more about them below.


 

Music on the Hill (MOTH) CIT Program

Ages 16 - 18

3-Week Session: July 2 - Friday, July 20, 2018 (no July 4)
Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:45 pm

MOTH Concerts:

  • Chamber Concert: Wed, July 18, 6:30 pm, First Church in Belmont, 404 Concord Avenue
  • Chamber Concert: Thurs, July 19, 6:30 pm, First Church in Belmont, 404 Concord Avenue
  • Orchestra/Jazz/Fiddle: Fri, July 20, 6:30 pm, First Church in Belmont, 404 Concord Avenue
  • Faculty Concert: Tues, July 10, 6:30 pm, First Church in Belmont, 404 Concord Avenue

About the program

  • Students play and perform in chamber ensembles and the MOTH orchestra.
  • Students have the opportunity to perform in weekly solo recitals.
  • Students assist faculty and staff in rehearsals and other activities during the day.
  • Students have access to 3 private lessons in their instrument or composition taught by excellent faculty.
  • Enrollment is limited based on instrumentation.

Tuition

  • MOTH CIT tuition: Those selected for the CIT program will receive a 50% scholarship for a total tuition of $995 (includes 3 private lessons), with option to pay $500 deposit or full tuition at time of registration
  • Audition fee: $30
  • Summer Registration fee: $15
  • Financial Aid is available for this program on a limited, rolling basis. 

Audition Dates:

  • Monday, April 9, 6:00-9:00 pm
  • Saturday, April 28, 3:00-6:00 pm
  • Monday, May 7, 6:00-9:00 pm

Audition Requirements:
Students are asked to play for approximately 10 minutes. Students should prepare:

  • Portions of 2 contrasting pieces that represent their playing (or two contrasting movements of the same piece
  • 2 scales (of the student’s choice, in as many octaves as possible
  • Students may be asked to sight-read

Ready to apply for the MOTH CIT program?
All CIT applicants must complete the following:

  1. Teacher recommendation - Ask your private lesson teacher to complete a teacher recommendation form.
  2. Pay your $30 Audition Fee - You will be asked to create an ASAP account if you do not already have one.
  3. Schedule your audition - Once we receive your teacher recommendation and audition payment, you will be contacted by our staff to schedule an audition time.
  4. Registration and Payment - After your audition, if you are accepted, please complete and submit your registration and tuition payment.

Pow-Wow CIT Program

Ages 12 - 15

About the program:

  • Students will assist faculty at instrumental lessons and art lessons, and will perform in the Pow-Wow operetta.
  • Students will help faculty and staff in rehearsals and other activities during the day.
  • Students should have three or more years experience playing an instrument.
  • Enrollment is limited to a maximum of two students per session.

Pow-Wow Prep, Session 1
June 18-22, 2018 from 8:30 am - 1:00 pm

Pow-Wow Prep, Session 2
June 25 - 29, 2018 from 8:30 am - 1:00 pm
Performance on Friday, June 29, 1:00 pm, at First Church in Belmont

Pow-Wow Session 3
July 2 - 13, 2018 (no July 4) from 8:30 am - 3:00 pm
Performance on Friday, July 13, 7:00 pm, at First Church in Belmont

Pow-Wow Session 4
July 16 - 27, 2018 from 8:30 am - 3:00 pm

Tuition

  • CIT Session 3 or 4: Those selected to be a CIT will receive a 50% scholarship on the full session tuition rate.

All CIT applicants must:

  • Be 12 years of age by September 1 of the school year following the Pow-Wow program
  • have past experience working in a leadership role with children, in settings such as summer programs, school clubs, tutoring, babysitting, etc.
  • possess and attitude of cheerful enthusiasm, leadership, and self-motivation
  • have 3+ years experience playing a musical instrument

All CIT applicants must complete the following:

  1. Application - Submit a Pow-Wow CIT Application form online.
  2. Notification - Once we receive and review your application, a Pow-Wow Artistic Director or Powers staff member will contact you.
  3. Registration and Payment - If you are accepted, please complete and submit your registration and tuition payment.
