Are you thinking about joining the Suzuki Program, but want to ease into it a bit? Not sure if your child is ready for private lessons yet?
The Suzuki Musical Kids group class provides a great introduction for children ages 3 and 9 months to 4 ½ (and you!) to get a feel for the skills, methods, and learning styles taught in the full Suzuki Program. This is a true stepping-stone into the Suzuki world and can help your family make a final decision about whether you’re enjoying it and are ready to dive in.
We call this a “pre-instrument class,” meaning students learn how to care for an instrument and develop the muscles to hold and play a violin or cello correctly without fear of dropping or damaging it.
The Japanese teacher Shinichi Suzuki believed that every child can learn to speak, and then read, the language of music in a nurturing environment. It takes time for young kids to learn to “speak” the language of music, so while they’re learning about instruments, they’re also participating in fun, engaging general music activities like singing melodies, pitch recognition, creating rhythms, building fine motor skills, and the foundational skills needed to prepare for private lessons and the full Suzuki Program.
