Historical Dance for Musicians

Age: Preteen to adult

Cost: Fall or Spring Semester: Preteen/Teen class $245 ($225 tuition + $20 registration fee); Adult class $320 ($300 tuition + $20 registration fee)

Led by instructor Ken Pierce, explore an overview of dances and dance types of Europe from the late 16th to the early 18th centuries, with a focus on the relationship between dance and music.

You’ll learn the basic steps and choreographic patterns for selected Renaissance and Baroque dances, including pavanes, branles, galliards, and canaries (Renaissance) and bourrées, menuets, sarabandes, gigues, and gavottes (Baroque).  By experiencing how steps and music interact in these and other dances, you’ll gain an understanding of ways to approach music that was made for, or influenced by, dance.

Open to all instrumentalists and singers, as well as to non-musicians with an interest in historical dance.
