Students that Groove together, Grow together! The Groove and Grow Music Therapy group is a specialized group that helps students to develop social and classroom readiness skills.
Each week, students will participate in group music experiences like instrument playing and exploration, singing social songs, and movement to music. Some personal skills we’ll focus on include turn-taking, sharing, kindness, inhibition, impulse control, and body awareness and control.
Children do not need to be actively engaged the entire class time – they’ll still learn through listening, too! This is their time to explore themselves and the music in a safe environment with support from a music therapist.
While the children work on their social and developmental skills, caregivers will also learn some fun and effective ways to incorporate music into daily routines to help in difficult moments.
Who is this class for?
- Students who struggle making friends in groups of their peers
- Students who need extra support and practice in groups before heading to kindergarten
- Students who seem to act on every impulse and have difficulty stopping themselves
- Students who seem to constantly bump into other students and objects
- Neurodivergent students who want to practice and strengthen these skills
